Winter Appeal 2023-2024

Samaritan Inn Winter Appeal 2023

To Our Sussex County Friends and Neighbors,

It is hard to believe another year is drawing to a close and a new year will soon be upon us!

At Samaritan Inn we have seen firsthand the effects of the rising cost of living.  Families are finding it harder to find affordable housing because rental inventory is low and rental prices have risen far above the inflation rate.  Eviction moratoriums have been lifted and other state and federal benefit programs to assist with back rent are ended. The cost of food, gas, clothing and insurance are more out of reach for families struggling to make ends meet.

Fortunately, Samaritan Inn remains a refuge against this storm of uncertainty and a safe place where families can come and stabilize.    We have remained steadfast in our mission to help people rebuild their lives and successfully discharge them back into our community.

In the past fiscal year, Samaritan Inn Family Shelter Program provided 8,989 nights of shelter for 46 families (59 adults and 65 children) in our 13 apartments.  This program has a 92% success rate transitioning families into permanent housing.  Our food pantry provided 27, 040 pounds of food to 338 families (703 adults and 410 children) distributing over 1,352 bags of food.

Samaritan Inn is turning to you for financial help. We are asking our friends, neighbors, and local businesses to partner with us as we strive to make Sussex County a place where every family has a home and a place where children never have to fear where they will be sleeping.   Please remember that your donation is tax deductible, and every donation goes for the greater good to help the homeless families of Sussex County.

We thank you in advance for your continued support of Samaritan Inn; we are confident that together we can continue to be a light in the storm for the people of Sussex County. In 2024, we look forward to helping even more families secure stable housing and achieve self-sufficiency. It is now more important than ever that we can continue to help our community.   If you can help in any way, please know how greatly appreciated you are! You have our deepest heartfelt gratitude.

Sincerely,

The Board of Directors and Staff at Samaritan Inn wish you a safe and warm holiday season.

CLIENT VOICES 2023

“From day one the program has helped me with holding myself financially accountable. I have learned to live a more minimalist life.  This program ultimately allowed me to provide my daughter with some stability and keep her in school.  I am very grateful for my experience.”

From a single mom

“We are super grateful of the fact that the staff never gave up on us.  They always pushed us to believe we could achieve anything we put our minds to. Being at the Samaritan Inn also helped bring my children back to normalcy and structure.  Without working their program I do not think we would be where we are now…happily in our own home!”

From a mom and dad and their 4 children

I am so grateful to Samaritan Inn. They allowed me to save money, dropped off food and toiletries every week and my case manager helped me every step of the way toward permanent housing.   Samaritan Inn was definitely a step up.  Thank you and God Bless.”

From a single mom of a newborn

“I called Samaritan Inn and they were gracious enough to put me in the shelter same day. I found an apartment and moved in with their help.  Everyone was kind and helpful, to make my transition easy and the resources were many”
