To Our Sussex County Friends and Neighbors,
It is hard to believe another year is ending and a new one is beginning! 2022 has been a challenging year for so many in our community and 2023 is shaping up to be just as unpredictable. At Samaritan Inn we have seen firsthand the onslaught of evictions and the effect that has on Families who are being displaced. Fortunately, Samaritan Inn remains a refuge against this storm of uncertainty and a safe place where families can come and stabilize. We have remained steadfast in our mission to help people rebuild their lives and successfully discharge them back into our community. At this time, our 13 apartments are at capacity; providing shelter for 19 adults and 19 children including 2 newborns and one more birth expected any day.
Samaritan Inn is turning to you for financial help. We are asking our friends, neighbors, and local businesses to partner with us as we strive to make Sussex County a place where every family has a home and a place where children never have to fear where they will be sleeping. Please remember that your donation is tax deductible, and every donation goes for the greater good to help the homeless families of Sussex County.
Just to give you some examples of how your donation helps: in 2021, our Family Shelter program provided 7859 nights of shelter for 38 families (81 individuals: 49 adults and 32 children) in our 13 apartments. Our food pantry provided 23,920 pounds of food to 775 clients (544 Adults and / 231 Children), distributing over 1,196 bags of food. Our Family Shelter program has an 88% success rate of moving families into permanent housing. In fact, in 2022, we were able to place 30 families in apartments or rental houses.
In 2023 we look forward to helping even more families secure stable housing and achieve self-sufficiency. It is now more important than ever that we can continue to help our community. If you can help in any way, please know how greatly appreciated you are!
Sincerely, The Board of Directors and Staff at Samaritan Inn wish you a safe and warm holiday season.
